According to CleanFuel USA, 12 of the school district’s 50 buses run on autogas, with three more Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 buses about to be converted. The company says the buses are powered by CleanFuel USA’s liquid propane injection system.
At the event, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) awarded $2,500 to Friendswood Junior High for converting a portion of its fleet to autogas. The donation is part of PERC’s campaign to educate consumers about the benefits of transitioning away from diesel. PERC partnered with Jenna Bush Hager, journalist and former teacher, and the Adopt a Classroom nonprofit to donate more than $30,000 to seven schools nationwide for adopting autogas buses.
Friendswood Junior High, based in Friendswood, Texas, began to transition its school bus fleet to autogas in 2012. Mike Jones, Friendswood school district’s transportation director, says he has been pushing for the school district to transition to an all-propane school bus fleet eventually.
